Celebrating New Beginnings: A Fall Family Session in Castleton, NY

There’s something incredibly heartwarming about being invited to document a family’s most joyful moments—especially when those families feel like an extension of your own. I’ve known Emily’s older sister Jen since my college days(her masters), so when Emily reached out to schedule a family session with her husband Jory (and their adorable pup), I was all in!

What made this session even more special? Emily and Jory recently announced they’re expecting their first baby! Capturing the start of their parenthood journey, right in their own backyard in Castleton, NY, was truly a gift.

Their property offered a variety of photo-perfect spots, from the cozy corners near their home to open areas that caught the dreamy golden light just as the sun dipped below the tree line in their front yard. The weather was pure fall magic—crisp but warm, glowing, and full of anticipation for what’s to come.

Thank you for having me photograph you for such an important occasion in your lives. Having a little one is life changing and it’s tough sometimes to slow down and remember to stop and enjoy this time for what it is. Know that you’re going to get all kinds of parenting advice from others but the most important thing to know is if the baby is happy, healthy and fed. The rest you will handle as it comes. Congratulations again on this new addition coming, can’t wait to meet her!
