Some sessions just fall perfectly into place — even when they don’t begin the way you planned.
My sister Lauren and I headed out to Elhannon Tree Farm and Nursery to photograph and film some B-roll for Emilie and Tyler’s engagement session. After a stretch of cold, rainy weather, I knew I wanted to arrive early to scout the property and make sure we found a location that wouldn’t leave the couple trudging through mud or force me into hours of extra editing afterward.
We had originally hoped the cherry blossom trees would be blooming, but spring in upstate New York had other plans. The trees weren’t quite ready yet, and for a moment, I wondered if we’d have to completely rethink the vision for the session.
But sometimes the unexpected turns into something even better.
While we were driving around the property, the owner mentioned beautiful white blossoming trees blooming on the property. After nearly 45 minutes of scouting, I found exactly what we were looking for. There was a row of established trees with delicate white blossoms created the most romantic, fairytale-like setting — especially as the golden evening light would be filtered through the branches around sunset time. I hoped it would look like something straight out of a movie.
Shortly after I settled on the location, Emilie and Tyler arrived, and immediately everything started to come together exactly the way I had imagined. The warmth in the air after such a cold week almost felt like spring had finally decided to show up just for them.
One of my favorite moments from the session was watching them relax into each other so naturally underneath the blooming trees. The blossoms surrounded them completely, creating the dreamiest backdrop while they laughed, held each other close, and soaked in the moment together. Every direction I gave them felt effortless because they trusted the process completely.

That trust makes all the difference.
Sessions always flow so much more naturally when couples allow themselves to simply be present with each other instead of worrying about posing perfectly. Emilie and Tyler did exactly that. Whether Tyler was wrapping his arms around Emilie beneath the blossoms, or the two of them were tucked closely together smiling into the camera, everything felt genuine and easy.

As the evening light softened even more, we wandered through the row of blooming pear trees while they held hands and walked together over the lush green grass. Those wider shots ended up becoming some of my favorites from the entire session because they captured the atmosphere of the evening so perfectly — warm sunlight, glowing white blooms, and two people completely wrapped up in each other.

There was one moment during sunset where the light filtered through the blossoms in front of my lens, creating this soft golden haze around them as they walked together. It felt cinematic in the best possible way and perfectly captured the romantic, whimsical feeling we had hoped for all along.

And of course, we had to pause for a few close-up ring photos nestled into the pear blossoms themselves. The delicate white flowers paired with the warm golden light created the most elegant setting for those little details that tell such an important part of their story.

It also didn’t hurt that Emilie and Tyler were incredibly comfortable showing their love for each other. By the end of the session, they had fully settled into the experience and had trusted my direction completely, which allowed me to focus on capturing authentic moments while guiding them into poses that flattered them naturally.

Every part of this session felt like exactly what I had envisioned.
The pear blossoms, the golden light, the warmth in the air, and the connection between them all came together to create one of those dream sessions photographers hope for. The kind that reminds you why you love what you do in the first place.
I genuinely cannot wait for Emilie and Tyler’s wedding in 2028!
Thank you to https://www.elhannon.com/ for a beautiful location and for letting us venture through the tree farm.
