Thacher Park, NY - Snow-Kissed Engagement Session with Christina and Ryan

There’s something magical about Thacher Park in late fall — the crisp air, the quiet trails, and the way the whole park feels like it’s holding its breath before winter settles in. A couple of weeks ago, I met up with Christina and Ryan for their engagement session there, and what started as a chilly afternoon quickly turned into a session we wont forget.

Before we started shooting, I scouted out some spots at the visitors center where I found a stream that ran right over the edge of the cliff and into the valley below — one of those places where the landscape opens up and the whole world feels bigger. I knew it would make the perfect backdrop, and the lighting was perfect so we started there.

When Christina and Ryan arrived, we wandered to the back of the visitors center where I had scouted earlier chatting about why Thacher Park was a meaningful location for the couple. These two are so natural together, we didn't have to make time to ease into the session, once they were posed, Ryan immediately began making Christina laugh by whispering in her ear. They fell into poses without even trying. You could feel how genuinely excited and happy they are for this next chapter.

We then made our way to that overlook spot, but as soon as we stepped out into the open, the weather made a dramatic entrance.

A sudden snow squall rolled in over the valley, turning everything white behind them. For a few minutes, it felt like we were shooting inside a snow globe — the wind whipping, flakes swirling, Christina’s hands absolutely freezing, and she was a total champ (even if she had to tuck her hands into Ryan’s coat every few minutes), and honestly, it made for some of the most magical photos.

Then, just as quickly as it arrived, the squall lifted. The valley reappeared, stretching out behind them. Those final few photos — with the soft blue hills and layered ridges — felt like a reward from the weather gods.

Christina and Ryan handled every twist the day threw at them with the best attitudes, and the result is a gallery filled with a mix of soft romance, dramatic winter magic, and a whole lot of genuine laughter. I’m so excited for these two and so grateful we got to capture such a unique moment together.

This was a nice read because it stayed simple and didn’t try to cram in a bunch of jargon. I liked how the points were broken up so you can skim, but it still explains the reasoning instead of just tossing out tips. Halfway through I ended up clicking around newimage.io too, mostly because it has that same “practical guide” feel when you want a bit more context. The examples felt pretty real and not like someone just rewriting the same advice you see everywhere. Also, the page itself is easy on the eyes—short chunks of text and headings that actually help you find what you’re looking for. The clean layout with clear headings and quick-to-scan paragraphs made the whole…
