Yaddo Garden Engagement Session - A Gem in Saratoga Springs

Tarryn, Jacob and I, walked into Yaddo Gardens from a shady dirt path into the light. The sun hit the grass on that hot Saturday afternoon and the greens were vibrant forcing you to squint as you looked at the ground.

Statues decorated the middle of a wide fountain which sat at the edge of the tree line.

An iron gate separated the main fountain from the gardens creating an archway of greenery shaded by the trees from the harsh mid-day sun.

The original owners of the gardens and grounds, the Trasks, showed their experimental nature in the Italian and French Renaissance architecture. Statues in glass casing, stand romantically posed while guarding the tree line at the edge of the lower garden.

At the top of the lower garden stands a beautiful Romeo and Juliet balcony where our two lovers, Tarryn and Jacob meet to reign over their empire that over looks the scenic rows of gorgeous colored roses and spring time blooms.

A few steps above, the couple steps under the pergola for a reprieve from the harsh sun, yet have the light kiss their bodies as the cuddle against the column.

As we approached the upper garden, trees and rocks merge together to form a dark and romantic woodland rock garden. A light shown through the trees as if to single the couple out like a fairytale creature caught in the woods. One would think they would see Pan or a Centaur posed in the background of the photograph, as if straight out of Greek mythology.

The Gardens, the only part of the Yaddo grounds open to the public, are among the most popular attractions in Saratoga Springs and receive over 60,000 visits annually.

The gardens are maintained by a group of volunteers called the Yaddo Garden Association, as well as the students in the area BOCES program.

A visit to Yaddo is truly a site worth seeing and a beautiful place of rest and inspiration to residents all over the Capital Region.

Thank you Anne-Marie from Yaddo for being in touch and also enabling us to shoot our engagement session here.
